Location
Stegen is a small, quiet village in the east of Luxembourg that belongs to the commune of Vallée de l'Ernz in the canton of Diekirch. The commune was created in 2012 by the merger of the communes of Ermsdorf and Medernach. It comprises the towns of Ermsdorf, Eppeldorf, Folkendange, Keiwelbach, Medernach, Stegen and Savelborn, as well as around fifteen farms and detached houses.

The municipality has a sports hall in Medernach and a football centre with two new artificial pitches at "Bloen Eck" in Stegen. There is also a well-known café-restaurant of the same name. St Bartholomew's Church in the centre of Stegen was declared a national monument in 2021.

Stegen is just a 10-minute drive from the centre of Ettelbruck. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and schools, as well as the Centre Hospitalier du Nord. Ingeldorf (10 minutes by car) has several large supermarkets, electrical and furniture shops and various car workshops. In Diekirch (15 minutes by car), you will find a wide variety of restaurants and cafés as well as a cinema.Schools
The Ermsdorf school building caters for children in cycle 1 who live in Ermsdorf, Eppeldorf, Stegen, Folkendange or Keiwelbach. The Medernach school infrastructure comprises three buildings, two of which are used for early years and pre-school education and one for basic education in cycles 2.1 to 4.2, and caters for around 250 pupils. The municipality of Vallée de l'Ernz is currently building a new school complex for the entire municipality at Medernach, which also includes a new halfway house and a new gymnasium. Completion is scheduled for the 2021/2022 school year.

Nearby, there are several lycées in Ettelbruck, Diekirch and Luxembourg City, all of which are served by public transport and are therefore easily accessible.

In Stegen, there is also a riding school that offers professional riding lessons and organises tournaments.

Transport
The "Bloen Eck" bus stop is in the immediate vicinity and is served by bus routes 101, 105, 409, 504 and 507.
